I can never decide whether or not I enjoy Maison Martin Margiela collections, and the spring/summer 12 collection is no exception. I feel many garments lack a certain beauty of manufacture as maybe seen in a Hussain Chalayan collection (his SS12 show for instance had some very similar ideas, neoprene top halves with delicate seam details that just ooze sophisticated pattern cutting techniques with their crisp seams and incredible fit).
I did however enjoy certain aspects of this collection. The sequinned Persian rug detail was quite special, and the plastic wrapping didn’t look as out of place as it sounds in theory. Some of the sillhouettes throughout the collection were very interesting, and the nude, neoprene tops under the tailored jackets were a nice touch.
One huge turn off about this collection for me is the huge amounts of ‘decorative’ zips…
